Our Allied Health Services

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapists

Physiotherapists diagnose and manage a broad range of conditions with the bones, muscles, cardiovascular system, nerves and other parts and systems of the body. They can help people to manage chronic diseases, give lifestyle advice, prescribe exercises and aids to help people manage better, and give advice.

When you go to see a physiotherapist, they might:

  • massage areas of your body
  • manipulate your joints
  • stretch your muscles
  • give you exercises to do

Dietitians

Dietitians

Dietitians provide expert nutrition and diet advice for people of all ages. They can help if you have a food allergy, high cholesterol, diabetes, cancer or gastrointestinal diseases, or if you are overweight or underweight. They can help with other health problems too.

A dietitian will ask questions about your health, what you want to achieve, and what you eat and drink.

Diabetes Education

Diabetes Educators

Diabetes Educators support those living with diabetes to self-manage their diabetes effectively.

Their role is to empower those living with diabetes with knowledge and guidance to understand the condition, overcome the challenges it may bring and gain confidence to live a healthy, full life. They do this by providing education and training, as well as clinical care.

Speech Pathology

Speech Pathologists

Speech pathologists can help you if you have problems with speech, language, communication, fluency or your voice. They often work with children helping a child’s speech develop.

Speech pathology can also help if you have problems swallowing food or drinking safely.

Audiology

Audiologists

Audiologists provide hearing tests to measure auditory and neural function, tinnitus and test balance (vestibular function). They can prescribe and fit devices and aids such as ear plugs, hearing aids and have specialised knowledge about implantable devices such as cochlear implants.

Social & Emotional Wellbeing

Clinical Psychologists / Counsellors

You might visit a Social & Emotional Wellbeing support professional for help with problems such as:

  • depression, anxiety or stress
  • drug and alcohol abuse
  • eating disorders
  • fears and phobias
  • low self-esteem
  • post-traumatic stress disorder

They can also help you deal with challenges you may face in life such as:

  • financial stress
  • relationship breakups
  • domestic violence
  • ageing
  • grief or loss

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapists

Occupational therapy is used when someone is having difficulty with everyday tasks, that is, the tasks that occupy them. An occupational therapist can identify their strengths and difficulties, such as dressing or getting to the shops, and will help them work out practical solutions. They are often called OTs.

If you see an OT, they can help you maintain, regain or improve your independence by using different techniques, changing your environment and using new equipment.

Podiatry

Podiatrists

Podiatrists are experts in foot, ankle and lower limb health. They can help to prevent, diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions including:

  • ingrown toenails
  • heel and arch pain
  • skin problems
  • balance issues
  • sprains

They can also treat foot problems that arise from underlying medical conditions such as diabetes and arthritis.
